Abstract The problem of substance abuse has become a major social and economic problem throughout the world. It has led to tremendous loss of human potential as well as an enormous drain on the financial resources of the governments of the countries involved in the fight against further spreading of this problem. Knowledge and positive attitudes are important aspect of providing nursing care for people with addiction. This study aimed to assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of nurses working with drug depended patients. This study was descriptive, performed on nurses working with drug depended patients at Heliopolis Psychiatric Hospital. Data were collected using Socio-demographic questionnaire, ) addiction knowledge questionnaire ) Questions related to nurses attitude and ) Nurses practices check list. The result of this study showed that nurses working with drug depended patients possess satisfying level of knowledge about addiction ( ) meanwhile, However, studied nurses showed level of attitudes toward drug depended patients ( ) meanwhile, Also studied nurses showed satisfying level of practices ( ) meanwhile. There were satisfying knowledge, negative attitudes and satisfying practices level among, studied nurses. The study recommended that in-service education should focus on proper use of communication skills. And provide psychological counseling for addict patients and nurses who work with them.
