Abstract

This study was carried out through 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons to evaluate some seeded soft, semi-dry and dry date palm strains grown in Aswan governorate, Egypt. Their local name, Soft (Osama 1, Osama 2, Hafez, Osama 4, Saody 2, Saody 3, Mostafa Barsy, El Qarashy), Semi-Dry (Gad 1, Gad 2, Gad 3, Dr. Saleh, Saber Abd Elaal, G. Abozrar, Ebrahim El-Sadek, Gabr Salem, A. elnaby 4, Younos El-Zak, Yousof Nor, Ahmed El-Gelany, Abo Alngar) and Dry (A. elnaby 1, 2, 3, El-masry 1, 2, Khaled ebn elwalid, Abas gaffer, Radwan and Ali Aamer date palm strains compared to Barhy, Sewi and Sakkoty cvs. that are of the commercial cultivar as reference material. Vegetative traits, yield components and fruit quality as well as numerical evaluation and molecular genetics were investigated.
Soft date palm strains :
The obtained results indicated that Hafez date palm strains had the highest values of most studied vegetative traits compared to the other studied strains. On the other hand, the least values of such traits were recorded of Barsy strain. Hafez strain gave the highest yield components followed by Osama 4 and Saody 3 strains, whereas, Osama 2 gave the least one compared to other studied strains. Hafez strain had the highest values of fruit quality followed by Osama 4, El Qarashy and Osama 2 strains, whereas, Saody 2 strain gave the lowest one compared to the other studied strains.
As the numerical evaluation of date palm strains, it could be arranged in a descendingly order as follows: Hafez (92.7), Barhy cv. (77.0), Saody 3 (74.8), Osama 4 (74.5), El Qarashy (70.1), Osama 1 (66.1), Osama 2 (65.5), Saody 2 (65.2) and Barsy (59.9 unit.).
The ISSR analysis data were used to estimate the genetic similarity among the eight date palm strains by using UPGMA computer analysis. The highest similarity index (1.0) was recorded between El Qorashy and Barsy, while the lowest similarity index was detected (0.44) between Osama 2 and Saody 2. A dendrogram for the genetic relationship among the eight date palm strains was found.
Semi-dry date palm strains :
