Abstract

This study is the first of its kind in the Nile Valley, Egypt , as it is the first study that uses the groundwater modeling and water budget concept to investigate the surface water - groundwater interaction, this study was carried out to answer some questions , which are : is there any connection between surface water and groundwater or not? , and where? Whichever gives to other? How to take the advantages of surface water groundwater interaction? .this work focused on the western flood plain of the River Nile in Dayrout, Qusya, Manfalout and Assiut District. The aims of the work were to measure tota dissolved solid (TDS) of 282 wells tapping the Quaternary aquifer and distributed in the study area to determine surface water salinity, modeling of surface water, groundwater interaction.
