Abstract

Our understanding and treatment of rectal prolapse has come a long way, but we are not at time journey’s end.
The laproscopic rectopexy with posterior rectal mobilization and bilateral rectal fixation provide a better functional outcome. The presence of two parallel mesh arms on both sides of the rectum avoids rectal intussusception without creating a complete anterior rectal rigidity secondary to mesh placement thus ameliorating emptying.

The posterior mobilization allows a complete and symmetrical rectal suspension. This reduces the posterior prolapse often observed and minimizes the risk of rectal angulation or compression when the mesh is secured to sacral promontory.so,it is the ideal treatment for rectal prolapse has been confirmed .This represents evolution of the abdominal approach and could play a role in the treatment for rectal prolapse and faecal incontinence, minimizing recurrences .
