Abstract

Low back pain is one of the most common costly health problems
due to the considerable impact on daily functioning, sickness absence,
and work disability. LBP is a common musculoskeletal disorder affecting
80% of people at some point in their lives. There are many risk factors
that increase the chances of getting LBP such as sitting too much, being
in poor physical condition, and bending and lifting improperly (Chou,
2012; Shiel, 2013). Ergonomics is the adaptation of tasks and tools to fit
the user. It covers all aspects of a job from physical stress to
environmental factors. Ergonomically designed furniture is important to
maintain good body positions that keep the worker in the most natural
and neutral positions. In order to accomplish this, joints must be kept in
their strongest, most stable, and least stressful positions. Implementing
ergonomics intervention into the workplace should be seen as an
investment, as it eventually will lead to decrease daily discomfort and the
risk of injury on the job, improved productivity, decreased absenteeism
and turnover, and lower insurance and workers compensations (CDC,
2011; Van Poppel, 2012).
