Abstract The purpose of this thesis is to study the efficiency of applying the base isolation technology on high rise buildings. Nine models of office buildings having the same layout were designed, Three of them were assumed as a fixed-base models with heights of 40,20 and 10 stories ,Three were assumed as an isolated-base models with Triple friction pendulum bearings (TFP) and three isolated with lead-rubber bearings (NZ system). The seismic performance of these nine models was compared with costbenefit. The work was divided into four main parts. First, the building selection part ; the structural systems, layout, location, and design parameters of the buildings are selected. Then, the design part; each structure was designed using modal response spectrum analysis and time history analysis in SAP2000. Then, the analysis part ; where results from SAP2000 models were compared to obtain the related floor accelerations, displacements and in-story drifts. Finally, in the performance assessment part, probable damage costs were computed using fragility curves and FEMA P-58 methodology ”Federal Emergency Management Agency” in PACT ”Performance Assessment Control Tool”. Damage costs were computed for each building and seismic demand level and the results were compared. |
