Abstract

There is a need for the development of new diagnostic tests that can detect the presence of active periodontal disease, predict future disease progression and evaluate the response to periodontal therapy. The aim of this study to evaluate the level of IL-37 on the gingival crevicular fluid in chronic gingivitis and chronic moderate periodontitis patients, to evaluate the efficiency of IL-37 as a biomarker. And to determine effect of phaseI therapy on the level of IL-37 in GCF.Subjects and Methods: Forty five subjects were included in the study. Fifteen subjects as healthy control, Fifteen Patients with chronic gingivitis, and fifteen patients with chronic periodontitis as study groups. Full-mouth clinical periodontal parameters, including periodontal probing depth, plaque index, gingival index and Papillary bleeding index) were recorded at baseline in all groups and after treatment in both study groups. crevicular fluid level of IL-37 was measured using assay ELISA kits and data were statistically analyzed using SPSS.Result:The results of the present study, showed a significant reduction in all clinical parameters (GI, PI, PPD, PBI and CAL) after phase I periodontal therapy the level of IL-37 in gingival crevicular fluid was significantly lower in chronic periodontitis patients than in healthy subjects and gingivitis patientsConclusions: Level of IL-37 in GCF could be considered as a novel biomarker in chronic periodontitis, also it was negatively correlated with the progression of periodontal disease.
