Abstract This study aimed at investigating the effect of dialogic reading on enhancing speaking performance of third year Experimental Language primary school pupils. The study adopted the quasi experimental design.This study was conducted on 52 third grade experimental language school pupils.These participants were selected at random from El-Galaa Distinguished Experimental Language School in El Gharbia Governorate,in the school year 2015/2016. The following instruments were used: 1)Pre- and post speaking tests; 2) An assessment rubric; and 3) group interview. The participants were divided into experimental and control groups, 26 pupils in each. Students of the experimental group received training in the dialogic reading treatment. On the other hand, pupils in the control group received regular instruction. Pupils’ scores on the pre- and post- tests were statistically analyzed by applying the t-test in order to identify the effect of dialogic reading on enhancing the participants’ speaking skill. Study results indicated that there are significant improvements in favor of the experimental group concerning overall speaking performance and three of its components; fluency, accuracy, and comprehensibility. Relevant interpretation, recommendations, and suggestions were offered. Key words:dialogic reading, speaking performance,primary school pupils |
