Abstract The master thesis include the Aim and plan of the work and three main chapter: Aim and plan of the work The work in the thesis will oriented to preparation and characterization of some new Schiff bases and their metal complexes hoping to explore some effective compounds to be used in treatment of some microbial diseases I- Introduction This chapter includes an overview of previous researches for complexes of hydrazone ligands and their applications. . II- Experimental This chapter contains the chemical and instruments used in Practical part of thesis as follow: 1) Preparation of the Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes. 2) characterization of the ligand and its complexes using: •Physical techniques such as molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility. •Elemental analyses (C, H, N, Cl and M). •Spectral techniques as IR, UV- Vis., 1HNMR, mass spectra and ESR measurements. •Thermal techniques as DTA. and TGA. 3) Measurement antimicrobial activity. III- Results and discussion This chapter includes Spectroscopic (IR,1H-NMR, UV-VIS, Mass and ESR spectra) and elemental studies of the ligand (E)-N’,N’’-bis((Z)-4-fluorobenzylidene)-2-(naphthalen-1-yloxy)acetohydrazonohydrazide (H2L) and its metal complexes were reported. The magnetic properties and thermal analyses (DTA and TGA) were also carried out. The IR spectra of the prepared complexes suggested that, the ligand adopted either a bidentate or a tetradentate fashion, bonding to the metal ion through the azomethine nitrogens and the two phenolic oxygen atoms (ONNO). Electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed an octahedral geometry for all complexes except sliver(I) complex (8) and sliver(I) complex (9). The elemental analyses and mass spectral data have justified the ML, ML2, M2L and M3L2 composition of the complexes. The ESR spectra of copper(II) complexes (4), (6), and (7), showed an axial type (dx2-y2) ground state with a covalent bond character and also support the suggested structures of complexes. The antimicrobial of the ligand and its metal complexes were investigated and discussed. |
