Abstract

The impact of concentrated growth factors in sinus floor elevation surgery has been widely investigated in the literature. Results are still conflicting regarding its role in promoting bone augmentation in maxillary sinus. The present study was conducted to assess the impact of mineralized plasmatic matrix, a new way to obtain a homogenous mix of platelet concentrates and bone graft, used in lateral sinus floor elevation with simultaneous implant placement. Material and methods : ten sinus floor elevation in eight patients (eight females) with a mean age of 41.2±10 years were included. In study group, MPM was used while in control group bone graft and a collagen membrane was used. Implants were loaded after a healing period of 6 months and then followed for another six months after loading. Insertion torque values and Periotest was used to assess implant stability. CBCT scans taken before and after treatment were used to assess change in height and volume of the augmented sinuses. Results : no significant difference in terms of insertion torque, Periotest values were found between the two groups. In contrast reduction in bone volume was found to be higher in the study group but was not found to be statistically significant when compared to the control group. Conclusion : the use of MPM as a grafting material offer superior graft handling and stability. It also reduced the overall cost of the treatment which makes it a suitable alternative compared to the conventional technique.
