Abstract Liver is one of the most important parenchymatous organs in the body that plays an important role in metabolism and in detoxification of many toxic materials. The present work aims to investigate thepotential protective effect of silybum marianum extract and silymarin in liver fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in rats. The following parameters were studied Determination of serum ALT and AST activities, serum alkaline phosphatase activity (ALP), albumin, Determination of liver antioxidants,Semi-Quantitative RT-PCR of CYP450.And Histopathological changes of the liver tissues by staining with Mayer’s Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stains for microscopic examination and atomic force microscope (AFM).we concluded, the present results revealed that oxidative damage caused by free radicals in rat livers due to injection of CCl4 may be attenuated by supplementation of extraction of silybum marianum, or with silymarin. |
