Abstract

This was a retrospective study included patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer who attended to Clinical Oncology & Nuclear Medicine Department, Mansoura University Hospital during the period from January 2007 up to December 2013. This study compared between chemotherapy alone and chemo radiotherapy in treatment of LAPC as regard PFS, RR, toxicity and OS. As regard RR; In the CTH group; 26 patients (61.9%) developed PD, one patient (2.4%) developed PR, SD in 14 patients (33.3%) and CR in only one patient (2.4%). In the CRT group, PD developed in eleven patients (27.5%), PR in two patients (5%), SD in 26 patients (65%) and CR in only one patient (2.5%). The median PFS was 4 months in the 1st group and 9 months for the 2nd group .The median OS was 6 month for the 1st group in comparison to 11 month in the 2nd group. CRT group showed higher toxicity. Hematological toxicity was more evident in the chemotherapy arm, but with addition of radiation to chemotherapy, the non-hematological toxicities became more evident .In conclusion; addition of radiation to standard gemcitabine resulted in statistically insignificant modest prolongation of median survival, PFS and response rate but at the cost of increased toxicity.
