Abstract

In recent years a much greater interest was focused to investigate the pathogens in pigeons and viral agents in particular. Pigeons in Egypt are reared for several purposes; meat production, racing, show and hoppy. During the last two decades there was an increased loss among pigeons associated with nervous disease outbreaks. In order to gain an insight into the role of pigeon paramyxovirus -1 a variant of Newcastle disease virus in current epornitic neurological disease among pigeons in Sharkia province, 51 pigeon houses of both commercial and backyard rearing were investigated for incrimination of PPMV-1.
The clinical signs of examined pigeons revealed nervous signs (wing paralysis, head tremor, torticollis, opisotonus and leg paralysis Greenish diarrhea, respiratory signs, general signs of illness, emaciation, arthritis, and sudden death.
On necropsy, congestion in brain was observed, with hemorrhages on brain, on outer and inner aspects of skul1respectively. Enteritis came after brain lesions beside ulcer in intestine. Other findings were observed, fibrinous pericarditis fibrinous perihepatities fibrinous air Saculitis, Turkish towel appearance, nephrosis nephritis, necrosis in pancreas, necrotic focci on liver, bronzy coloration of liver, air sacculitis, nodule in lung, nodule in intestine and pancreas and Beside Caseated material in buccal cavity, Sarcocysts in breast muscles, cestodes and Ascaris.
