Abstract Introduction: Breast cancer in pregnancy is an uncommon situation but poses dilemmas for patients and their physicians. There is a paucity of prospective studies regarding diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer during pregnancy. Women diagnosed with breast cancer during pregnancy have similar disease characteristics to age- matched controls. Aim of the work: To review the recent trends in management of pregnancy associated breast cancer stressing on methods of early detection and early management. Conclusion: Chemotherapy can safely be administered during the second and third trimester. Cyclophosphamide and doxorubicin, with or without 5-fluorouracil, is the preferred combination. To date, the use of trastuzumab and tamoxifen during pregnancy is not recommended. Per stage the prognosis for PABC seems to be similar to non-pregnant women provided the same treatment is administered. Neonatal morbidity mainly appears to be related to prematurity. Therefore, premature delivery should be avoided. |
