Abstract The present work was carried out to study the efficacy of ciprofloxacin (8 mg/kg b.wt.), metronidazole (30 mg/kg b.wt.) either alone or in combination against experimentally E.coli and/or Cl. perfringens infected chickens either alone or mixed infection. Another goal was to study the side effects that could be reflected on haematological picture, liver and kidney functions, Ca++, Phosphorus and Mg++. The histopathological changes involving the vital organs was also studied. The residues of each drug was measured in breast muscle, liver and kidney. 1- Antibacterial activity in vitro The present study showed that MIC of ciprofloxacin was 0.3 μg/ml against E.coli. of avian origin and has an inhibitory Zone of (28 mm) but metronidazole have inhibitory Zone (25 mm). 2- Antibacterial activity in vivo: A total of 500 one day old Hubbard broiler chicks were divided into 10 equal groups each of 50: group (1): non-infected, non-medicated (control). group (2): non-infected, treated with ciprofloxacin (8 mg/kg b.wt.) in drinking water. |
