Abstract

Objective: to study the role of serum dipeptidyle peptidase. IV activity in development and progression oif simple steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and its role in follow up the progression to chronic liver disease.
Study design: A case – control study
Study setting: The study was conducted at Ain Shams University Hospital.
Patients: the study included 30 pateitns with non-alcoholic fatty liver (Goup I) and 30 patients with non-alcoholic steato hepatitis (group II), 30 health individuals were taken as a Control (group III)
Results: DPP4 is higher in non alcoholic steatohepatitis (group II) > 2.9 ug/ml comparision to non alcoholic fatty liver (group I) < 2.9 ug/ml and control group (III) < 0.58 ug/ ml
DPP4 expression level postively correlated with NAFLD fibrosis score, total cholesterol and negatively correlated with HOMA IR and BMI
Conclusion: the increased hepatic expression of DPP4 in NAFLD patients suggests that DPP4 may be involved in the onset and progression of NAFLD and DPPIV inhibitor could be anovel candidate in NASH treatment
