Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of H. pylori infection on persistence and chronicity of ITP in children and adolescent.
Subjects and methods: Children and adolescents with persistent and chronic ITP, presented at Pediatric Hospital of Ain Shams Hopitals. They were investigated for H. pylori infection by H. pylori antibodies (IgA and IgG), urea breath test and anti CAG & anti VAG.
Results: Mean age of patients was 8.5 years, mean age at diagnosis of ITP was 6 years, prevalence of H. pylori infection was 32.5%.
Conclusion: Since the prevalence of H. pylori infection in Egyptian children with persistent and chronic ITP was not higher than that found in the general population, so we can conclude that H. pylori infection may not play a causative role in childhood chronic ITP.
