Abstract

This thesis is entitled as ”Removal of toxic metals by treated activated carbon-coated-magnetite nanoparticales and yeast systems from polluted industrial wastewater in El-Mex bay” and consists of seven chapters. The aim of this study was to develop an effective method to remove toxic heavy metals from aqueous environment especially the marine environment such as El- Mix Bay using newly solid extractors/sorbents based on treated activated carbon by chemically and /or biologically active materials as well as loaded nano-magnetic iron oxide. The sorption properties of modified AC sorbents for heavy metal ions such as cadmium, lead, mercury and chromium were studied, evaluated and optimized in presence of various experimental controlling factors including the effect of pH, contact time, sorbents dosage and interfering foreign ions. In addition, the sorption processes were studied and evaluated by applying the Langmuir and BET isotherm models. The designed solid sorbents were further implemented as collecting materials for heavy metals from five different locations in front of domestic and industrial wastewater entrance on El-Mex Bay. These five stations are located on the following map. The proposed study was found to exhibit high efficiency and excellent ability to remove and recover toxic heavy metals by using multi- stage micro-column technique.
