Abstract
The thesis is divided into five parts : Part I : General introduction to epilepsy and antiepileptic drugs. Part II : Validated spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric methods were developed for the analysis of pregabalin (PGB) in certain capsule dosage form using eosin as an ion pair reagent. Part III: A simple, sensitive and validated spectrofluorimetric method was proposed for the determination of carbamazepine (CBZ) in tablet preparations after nucleophilic substitution reaction with 4-chloro-7- nitrobenzo-2-oxa-1,3-diazole (NBD-Cl ). Part IV : Two sensitive and validated spectrophotometric methods were applied for determination of carbamazepine (CBZ) in bulk drug and tablet dosage forms. The proposed methods were based on derivatization with 4-chloro-7- nitrobenzo-2-oxa-1,3-diazole (NBD-Cl) and 1,2- napthaquinone-4-sulfonic acid sodium (NQS). The developed methods were further applied to content uniformity testing of CBZ tablets. Part V : A validated stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatographic method (HPLC) with UV detection method was investigated for the determination of ethosuximide (ETX) in raw material. Where, the inherent stabilities of the drug were investigated after exposure of the studied drug to different stress degradation conditions according to the ICH guidelines.
