Abstract

Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is by far the most critical component in concrete. The manufacturing of regular OPC is decreasing all over the world in view of the popularity of blended cement on account of lower energy consumption, environmental pollution, economical and other technical reasons. In advanced western countries the production of OPC has become limited to about 40 percent of the total cement production. The main objective of this research was studying the properties of OPC when mixed with fine materials specified as supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) in order to evaluate the properties of common cement, these materials are silica fume, fly ash, dolomite powder and their combinations. This study accounted for cement concrete using blended cement (cement + SCMs). The research included a comprehensive experimental testing to evaluate the aspects of using blended cements. The experiments were conducted at four ages for cement concrete 3, 7, 28 and 90 days in order to study the influence of using SCMs with cement on the compressive strength development of cement concrete at different ages. The parameters of the study were: C.A (D,G,), w/c ratio, SCMs (silica fume, fly ash, dolomite powder and their combinations) used to replace
the cement at different ratio (SF = 5% ,7% by weight , FA = 10% ,15% by weight, DP from 0 to 20 percent by weight )
