Abstract

This thesis was conducted to evaluate the shrinkage behavior of
self-compacting concrete (SCC) mixtures. As cement content of self
compacting concrete is higher compared to normal concrete, final
shrinkage is higher and the resistance against the evaluation of
induced cracks is lower. The main parameters taken into
consideration were cement type, fiber type, volume fraction of fibers
and weather conditions (air laboratory, open atmosphere and
humidity ratio). Three types of fibers are used, hooked end steel
fibers, cramped steel fibers and polypropylene fibers. Time
dependent behavior of SCC was investigated in terms of its
mechanical properties (compressive strength, splitting tensile
strength, flexural strength and modules of elasticity) and time–
dependent deformation. Time-dependent deformations are expressed
in terms of plastic shrinkage and creep. Fresh properties of SCC are
investigated (segregation resistance, and plastic shrinkage). The
mixes were cast with ordinary Portland cement gave flow ability
more than the mixes with lime stone cement by ٤٪ and the use of
fibers reduced the drying shrinkage compared to that of the control
mix. Also the drying shrinkage decreased as the volume fraction
increases. These results were noticed in the laboratory and open
atmosphere.
