Abstract

Introduction: The use of cystatin C for diagnosis of cisplatin and its’ analogues nephrotoxicity. The aim of work: To determine incidence of AKI in patient received platinum based chemotherapy. To evaluate the diagnostic validity of (cystatin C) for early detection of nephrotoxicity induced by platinum based chemotherapy. Research Plan: The study includes 132 patients received platinum base chemotherapy in department of clinical oncology and nuclear medicine in Mansoura University Hospital in Dakahlya Governorate in Egypt over one year. In addition to the thorough history taking and clinical examination laboratory investigation are done including serum creatinine, calcium, magnesium and urinary cystatin C. Results: Our study revealed that AKI, hypocalcaemia, and hypomagnesaemia were common side effects of platinum based chemotherapy, cystatin C showed significant increase before significant change in serum creatinine. Conclusion: Cystatin C is better than serum creatinine in early detection of AKI platinum based chemotherapy.
