Abstract Summary Introduction The administration of a medicine is a common but important clinical procedure. It is the manner in which a medicine is administered that will determine to some extent whether or not the patient gains any clinical benefit, and whether they suffer any adverse effect from their medicines (Nair S.G, (2011) Aim of the study:The present study aims to evaluate the effect of implementation of an educational program on nurses’ knowledge and practice of emergency units regarding emergency medications. Subjects and Methods: Pre-expermintal design (one- group pre test –post test design) was used to evaluate the impact of educational programon nurses knowledge and practice regarding emergency medications.The study was carried out at coronary care unit(CCU) and emergency units at Assiut General Hospital.Subject of the study consisted of Convenient sample of 30 nurses recruited from emergency units at Assuit General Hospital. To accomplish the aim of the current study,two tools were used for data collection ,Tool one ,nurses knowledge questionnaire sheet (pre test-post test). This tool developed in Arabic by researcher after eeviewing litratures. to assess knowledge level of the critical care nurses regard emergency medication.Tool two observational check list for nurses’ practice to assess nursing practices regard emergency medications. This tool developed by the researcher consisted of observational check list sheet this tool covered all steps procedure of giving emergency medications(oral,sublingual, parental, I.M and I.Vand inhalation) by nursing 6 rights. Summary - 99 - The study was carried out on four phases; 1): Assessment phase After developed the tools the researcher assess nurses knowledge by using (tool 1 part 2) ”Nurses’ knowledge questionnaire sheet about emergency medications”followed by observing their practices use observational check list. Each nurse involved in the study will be assessed for his or her knowledge and practices by using the written knowledge and practices regarding emergency medications. (2) Planning phase After analysis of the collected data the researcher develop an educational program in form of handout in booklet in Arabic language . (3): Implementation phase Development of the educational program The educational program had been developed by the researcher ,after revieing the relevant literature.The following steps were adopted to develop the program.(Appendx - Stating the program and specific objectives - Planning the program - The program was implemented in classroom in Assuit general hospital, nurses divided into groups according to work status (4) Evaluation phase: Each nurse was evaluated 3 times before (pre-test),immediately after the implementation of the program (post-test)and after 3months (followup) by use the same pre test study tools (tool 1 part2) ”Nurses’ knowledge questionnaire sheet about emergency medications”( tool2) 2) Practices assessment tool Results of the study: Results of the present study were demonstrated according |
