Abstract

Three experiments were carried out during three successive seasons 2013, 2014 and 2015, on 7 years old cactus pear plants (Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Miller) on local variety called (shameia) growing in a private cactus pear farm at west Nubaria region, Behera governorate, Egypt. Cactus pear plants were planted in a single row orientated in an North/South direction, with space of 4 m between rows and 3 m within rows (350 plants / feddan), in loamy sandy soil and sprinkler irrigation system. The conventional agriculture practices used by the grower were; 7-9 irrigation times/season and adding 180-200 g nitrogen per plant once at the beginning of season (the first third of February) by fertigation system.
