Abstract

The present study was conducted on 20 female patients with peri-ocular dark halos admitted to the plastic and reconstructive surgery Unit, Alexandria Main University Hospital during a period from March 2014 till August 2016.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the role of nanofat grafting in treatment of periocular dark halos using 27 G needle.
In this study:
The mean age of the studied patients was 36.15 years old ranging from 19 years old to 52 years old. The majority of patients were between 31 to 40 years of age (35%).
Regarding anesthesia: the procedure was done under general anesthesia in 12 cases (60%), and under local anesthesia in 8 cases (40%).
Regarding the technique: the traditional 27 Gauge needle was used for injection in 8 cases (40%) and the dental needle and syringe was used in 12 cases (60 %).
The amount of nanofat injected ranged from 1.6 ml to 2.1ml for each side with average 1.8 ml.
Nanofat grafting was done as the only procedure in 8 cases (40%), and done with other procedures in 12 cases (60%)
Regarding donor site: fat was harvested from the lower abdomen in 15(75%) of cases or from the medial thigh in 5(25%) of cases.
Regarding complications: post-operative edema and ecchymosis was minimal in 14cases (70%) and mild in 6 cases (30%). No cases (0%) were presented with infection post-operatively. Two cases (10%) presented with contour irregularity in the form of visible lumps.
Regarding outcome: skin quality was improved in majority of cases (17 cases)(85%), and in 3 cases(15%) no skin quality improvement was noted.
Marked improvement of the periocular dark halos in 18 cases (90%) ranged from significant, moderate and mild improvement. No change in the color was noted in 2cases (10%).
As regards patient satisfaction: 17 cases (85%) were satisfied with the final result and 3 cases (15%) were not satisfied.
