Abstract This present study was carried out to evaluate the possible skeletal and dental effects of the Rick-A-Nator appliance in the treatment of growing patients with skeletal class II malocclusion due to retrusive mandible. This study started by thirteen class II mandibular retrusive patients and ended by ten patients. All patients were selected according to the following inclusion criteria : Growing individuals with an age range of 9-12 years old. Patients with skeletal class II malocclusion. Patients with mandibular retrusion. Normal or deep bite. No previous orthodontic treatment. Good oral hygiene. No abnormal oral habits. No systemic disease. The following diagnostic records were taken for all subjects before and after treatment : Photographs: Radiographs : Lateral cephalometric radiograph. Panoramic and hand wrist radiographs. Upper and lower casts. Hand wrist and panoramic radiographs were taken only at the start of treatment. All subjects were treated with Rick-A-Nator appliance for a treatment period of one year. The results of this study revealed changes associated with Rick-A-Nator treatment as follow: Skeletal changes: Stimulation of forward growth of the mandible. Non significant change upon the forward growth of the maxilla. Significant improvement of intermaxillary relationship. Significant increase in the lower facial height. Dentoalveolar changes: Significant proclination of the lower incisors with non significant changes in the position of the upper incisors. The lower first molars showed significant mesial drift. However, there was non significant change in the position of upper molars. Model changes: Significant reduction of the overjet and overbite. Upper and lower intercanine and intermolar arch widths showed non significant change. |
