Abstract Psoriasis is common, chronic, inflammatory and hyper proliferative skin disease that may appear at any age and affect any part of the skin. It affects 1.4 % to 2.0 % of the population. There are five main types of psoriasis: plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular, and erythrodermic. Coeliac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder affecting primarily the small intestine that occurs in people who are genetically predisposed. Anti-endomysial antibody (EMA) and tissue transglutaminase (tTG) antibody are used as screening tests and to measure disease activity in CD. The aim of this work is to evaluate the presence of anti-endomysial antibody IgA, and anti-transglutaminase antibody IgA in psoriatic patients, and to define the possible relationship between psoriasis and coeliac disease. The result of the study revealed that EMA- IgA and tGA- IgA were increased, (with statistically significant difference) in psoriatic patients versus control group. This indicates that the incidence of CD in psoriatic patients may be much higher than in the normal population. |
