Abstract Introduction: Streptococcus pyogenes is the most common bacterial cause of acute pharyngitis, accounting for 15-30% of cases in children and 5-10% of cases in adult. Aim of work: Determine the prevalence of GAβHS carriers among primary school children, proper antimicrobial policy for eradication of GAβHS carrier, ability of GAβHS to form biofilm, assay of Anti-Streptolysin O antibodies & complement 3 level in serum of primary school children. Subjects, Materials and Methods: Seventy three clinically healthy children, using RapID STR test, biofilm formation by using polystyrene microtiter plat, ASO by latex agglutination test, C3 by turbidimetric method. Results : The prevalence of asymptomatic streptococcus pyogenes carriers was 13.7%. The percentage of beta haemolytic isolates was 60.27%; only 22.73% of them were GAS. Bacitracin sensitivity percentage from GAS isolates was 70%, 9/10 (90%) of GAS isolates were having ability to form a biofilm. Summary: The prevalence of asymptomatic streptococcal pyogenes carriage among primary school children was 13.7% & Complement 3 level was normal in all carriers of GAS obtained in this study. |
