Abstract The term lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis refers to subluxation of a vertebral body over another in the sagittal plane due defect in the pars interarticulars. The characteristic symptom is back pain and radiculopathy. The aim of this study is to compare the results of posterior interbody fusion and postrolateral fusion in adult lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis. Points of comparison include; post-operative pain assessment, post-operative functional recovery , bone fusion in both technique , lumbopelvic parameters and posterior disc height. This prospective study included 40 patients that suffered from lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis. All patients were presented to the Departments of Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine; Alexandria University and Alexandria Police hospital. All patients were subjected to informed consent taking before surgery, complete history taking which included the following symptoms: back pain, neurogenic Claudication, sciatica, motor deficit and sphincteric disturbance, full neurological examination, evaluation using Oswestry disability index, routine laboratory investigations, plain x-ray of lumbosacral spine, CT scan of the lumbosacral spine, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). |
