Abstract

Globally, and especially in developing countries, fever of unknown origin (FUO) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality Subjects and method: This study study was conducted on 113 patients complaining of fever from Mansoura University and Fever Hospitals over the period from December 2013 to January 2015.They were 27 (23.9%) children, 86(76.1%) adult, 72(63.7%) males and 41(36.3%) females. Median age was 35 years and ranged from 1 month to 74 yearsز Result:The patients classified into 4 groups: group I was infection and it was the most common cause 76 cases (67.3%), followed by group II which was malignancy 24 cases (21.2%) then group III inflammatory & miscellaneous causes 7 cases (6.2%) while group IV was the least diagnosis could not be reached in 6 cases (5.3%).Conclusion:Infection is the most frequent cause of FUO as Egypt is a developing country with overcrowding. Poor hygienic measures favor the spread of infection and also due to poor diagnostic facilities.
