Abstract Recently there have been huge number of building materials. Some of these materials are sources to many self and external destructive factors. The performance of these materials may not be appropriate for the surrounding environment. Many modern materials have been appeared to improve the properties of building materials to face those destructive factors of buildings in order to protect and improve their overall characteristics. Some sources of destruction are radiation, toxicity, flammability or external factors such as the impact of sea water, coastal environment, groundwater and earthquakes. Therefore, studying the role of modern materials to protect buildings and insure safety of its inhabitants is very important. Thesis Outline Chapter (1) General Introduction contains a presentation of the different chapters and the research objective Chapter (2) Literature Review contains extensive literature including the different types of self and external destructive sources of building materials. Types of radiation were reviewed and concentrating on their effect on health hazard. Definition and types of radiation Radiation is defined as the propagation of energy through matter or space. It is in the form of electromagnetic waves or energetic particles. |
