Abstract

Tolmetin, 2-[1-methyl-5-(4-methylbenzoyl)-1H-pyrrol-2- l] acetic acid, is a member of Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that is used for the treatment of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal and bone related diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
The aim of the current work was to develop optimized Tolmetin Sodium Fast Dissolving Tablets (TS-FDTs) in order to increase the bioavailability of the drug via accelerating the pre-gastric absorption of drugs from mouth, pharynx and esophagus as saliva passes down.
Fast dissolving tablets (FDTs) system is a solid dosage form containing active ingredient, which when placed in mouth, disintegrates and dissolves rapidly in saliva within few seconds without need of drinking water or chewing and can be swallowed in the form of liquid.
To achieve this goal, the experimental work in the current thesis.
