Abstract

It has always been a challenging work to the pediatric dentist to restore
primary teeth with a durable, retentive and esthetic restoration. Numerous
treatment approaches have been suggested to address the retention and
esthetics to the restoration of primary teeth. Carious primary teeth often
require full coronal coveragerestorations and the most reliable one is the
stainless steel crown. Nowadays most parents need more esthetic restorations
than unattractive appearance.
In the present study,open-faced stainless steel crown waspreferred as it
facilitate the proper choose of the shade of the resin veneer, crimping and
trimming of the crown to increase its retention on the tooth, also offer cheap
price.
Fifteen children (5-7years old) having bilateral carious lesions of lower
first deciduous molars wereselected andrestored with composite resin then
were prepared to receive the suitable trimmed open-faced stainless steel
crowns.
In relation to the facings, the two widely used composite resin
materials in primary teethwere used in this study, as flowable composite can
be easily used as a facingdue to easily handling properties thus reduce the
susceptibility to contamination and save the time. Also Nan composite
provided good result in facing of the crown due to its higher mechanical
properties.
It was found that the both types at follow up of one year provided good
esthetic with few degrees of color change.
