Abstract

El-Manzala Lake is considered as one of the most important sources of inland fishery in Egypt, it considered as the second major source of fish after Lake El-Burollus. The lake is connected with the Mediterranean Sea by narrow sandy fringes namely; El-Gameil, New El-Gameil, El-Boughdady and New Damietta Boghazes.
The bottom of the lake is covered with silty clay and sandy silty clay in the southern part. The western and south-eastern part of the lake is covered with silty clay. The central part of the lake, however, is covered with sand clay. The lake receives about 7500 million cubic meters of untreated industrial, domestic and agriculture drainage water through many drains including Bahr El-Baqar, Hadous, Ramsis, El-Serw and Faraskour drains.
As a result of extensive increase in pollution levels in El-Manzala Lake ecosystem, the gradual increase of heavy metals, pesticides and other pollutants are expected to change the water quality and affect their aquatic life. For this reason, a number of investigations have dealt with the environmental changes in Lake El- Manzala ecosystem.
Nine water samples were collected from different localities along El-Manzala Lake and four samples from selected drains. Samples were collected during the period of summer 2015–Winter 2016. The present study was designated to determine the pollution status of El-Manzala lake by evaluation the water quality that may affect to a great extent the biological productivity of the lake water, and to assess the levels of heavy metals (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, and Cd) in water of El-Manzala lake by determination of Oregon Water Quality Index, metal quality indices (PI and MI), to determine the suitability of its water for aquatic life utililzations. Not only estimation of environmental state of the lake but also using advanced oxidation processes for photocatalytic removal of organic matter instead of traditional methods via fabrication a binary system composed of GO.N-TiO2 as well as ternary system made of α-Fe2O3.Fe3O4.N-TiO2.With the rapidly growing market in portable electronic devices, electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles, there has been an ever increasing demand for environmentally friendly, high-performance energy-storage systems so are prepared samples are tested as supercapacitors and indeed they owned high capacitance values. The present work includes three chapters; a brief description of these chapters is given as follows.
