Abstract In The current work, Fabrication aluminum metal matrix composites reinforced with addition of SiC particles by using friction stir processing (FSP). The effect of the friction stir process parameters on microstructure and also mechanical and tribological behavior of AA6061-T6 aluminum alloy with addition of SiC was investigated. Two cases of friction stirring process were adopted, namely, single and double friction stirring processes. To get sound friction stirring process and sound microstructure the process was investigated under different rotational speeds, of 1200, 1400 and 1600 rpm, and different traverse speeds, of 40, 56 and 72 mm/min. It was found that homogeneity and porosity through microstructure for AA6061-T6 aluminum/SiC composite at the stirring zone were affected by number of friction stir processes. Rotational and traverse speeds play an important role on the efficiency of the friction stir process. Also, SiC grain size through the microstructure of AA6061-T6 aluminum/SiC composite at the stirring zone depends upon rotational speed, traverse speed during the friction stir process. the micro hardness is tested using ZWICK Roell Vicker’s and the micro hardness increased up to 90.1 HV at stirring zone at medium rotational speeds of 1400 rpm with medium travel speed 56 mm/min at double processes. The presence of SiC particles on the surface of friction stir processed sample can control on the tribological behavior that’s tested using pin on disc equipment setup. The results revealed that, The wear rate was found to be reduced by decreasing the tool rotational speed and /or reducing the traverse speed. And Also, the increasing amount of SiC leads to increase of friction coefficient. |
