Abstract Adolescence represents one of the critical transitions in the life span and is characterized by tremendous pace in growth. Parents play a critical role in maintaining and developing adolescents’ health. Aim of the study to assess parents’ awareness about adolescent’s health needs and problems. Design:- a descriptive design was utilized. Setting this study was conducted in Governmental Preparatory and Secondary Schools in El Sharabia District at North Cairo Governorate. Sample: A multi-stage random sample (n=520). Tools: two tools were used for data collection First tool: 1- Structured Interviewing questionnaire tool. Second tool: An attitude rating scale to assess parents’ attitude toward their adolescents. Results: the present study revealed that50% of the adolescents have anxiety and stress when seeing signs of puberty,85% of them spent a long time on the net,26.5% of them smoke,43.7% of them get sex information from their friends. More than half of parents had unsatisfactory level of knowledge to all items about adolescents’ health needs and problems, .On other hand more than half of parents had satisfactory level of practice and attitude to all items about adolescents’ health needs and problems at p<0.001. Conclusion: There was highly statistically significance between parent’s awareness and adolescents’ health needs and problems. Recommendation: Health education programmes directed for mothers to increase their awareness about puberty of their adolescents. |
