Abstract

Identification of OASIS was done by performing a pill-rolling motion by placing index finger in the rectum and thumb over the anal sphincter with assessment of the tone and the presence of any defect.
Regarding outcomes, there was no significant difference between three arms regarding the age , BMI and gestational age.
There was no difference in the perineal length , skin incision length, vaginal incision length and post incision angle among participants of the three groups.
The results showed that post-suture angle is lower in women with OASIS than women who did not suffer OASIS , vaginal and skin incision length were higher in women who had OASIS.
The overall incidence of OASIS was less in group A compared to group C and S , while no significant difference was found between group C and S.
Also incidence of ipsilateral tears with OASIS is less in women who had episiotomy cut by angled scissors compared to women who had episiotomy cut by straight or curved scissors.
There was no significant difference in the incidence of the other tears among the three groups.
No significant relation between the perineal length of the participating women and incidence of OASIS.
As a result we found that episiotomy cut by angled scissors have the least incidence of OASIS compared to episiotomies cut by straight or curved scissors.
