Abstract

Oral administration of abamectin in drinking water for six weeks resulted in an increase in the plasma level of AST,ALT,AP, glucose, total protein and albumin in male albino rats. Liver dysfunction and a consequent reduction in biosynthesis and alter membrane permeability leading to enzyme leakage in the blood stream may be the reason as a result of the toxic effect of abamectin. 2- Co-administration of abamectin with both vitamin C and E resulted in restoring the plasma levels of the above enzymes to be like that of the control. This improvement may be due to the antioxidant activity of vitamin C and E which used in the treatment of abamectin toxicity in soft organs. 3- Oral administration of abamectin in drinking water for six weeks led to a severe damage of the histological sections of liver in albino rats. However, vitamin C combined with vitamin E caused higher improvement, but not complete on the histological changes that are induced by abamectin. Impaired oxidant/ antioxidant balance may be responsible for the toxic effect of Conclusion and Summary 186
