Abstract This thesis presents wave loading on cylinder piles located in! the near shore zones using numerical finite element modeling. The effect of pile location relative to the surf zone and shoreline is investigated. El-Sokhna bathymetric survey and environmental conditions were used in the study. Different variables affecting the force on a single pile due to waves are studied. These variables include wave height, wave period, pile location relative to surf zone, marine growth and different seabed profile cross sections. It was found that the force on a pile increases significantly at the breaking zone. Force on pile increases with the decrease in wave period and the increase in wave height. Also, the force on the pile increases with the increase in the Seabed profile slope. It was noticed that the existence of marine growth increases the forces on the pile. Wave height increases with the increase in distance from the shoreline. Also, the wave velocity and acceleration increases with the increase in distance from the shoreline. This thesis provides a general useful methodology that can be used in selection of the location of jetty head relative to the surf zone. |
