Abstract This dissertation was conducted on one year old rooted cuttings of two European grape cultivars “Vites vinefera” namely: Crimson seedless and Superior during two consecutive 2014 and 2015 experimental seasons in the Experimental Station nursery of Faculty of Agriculture, Benha University, Egypt. It was hoped to throw some light on salt tolerance of such two grape cultivars to saline irrigation water pertaining its salts concentration and SAR level. On the other hand, possibility of minimizing the exhibited disorders/injuries on the salt stressed rooted cuttings of both grape cultivars through some recovering treatments was also included. Thus, two experiments were conducted on each grape cultivar. I. Fisrt experiment, effect of saline solutions: A factorial experiment was devoted for each grape cultivar during each season to investigate the specific and interaction effects of two salinity factors i.e., a) 3 saline concentrations (3000, 6000 and 9000 ppm) and two sodium adsorption ratios (6 and 12 SAR), as well as interaction effect of their combinations. So, rooted cuttings of each cultivar were subjected to the following seven irrigation treatments i.e., representative of (3 saline concentrations x 2 SAR levels) beside tape water as control: 1- Tap water ”control”. 2- Saline solution (3000 ppm) with S.A.R. 6. 3- Saline solution (3000 ppm) with S.A.R. 12. 4- Saline solution (6000 ppm) with S.A.R. 6. 5- Saline solution (6000 ppm) with S.A.R. 12. 6- Saline solution (9000 ppm) with S.A.R. 6. 7- Saline solution (9000 ppm) with S.A.R. 12. The complete randomized block design with five replications was used, each was represented by two rooted cuttings transplanted individually in pot of 35 cm diameter. On early April during each season irrigation with saline solutions of various treatments was applied twice monthly at the rate of one liter/pot. Fortnightly, irrigation with tap water was applied to avoid salt accumulation, followed on next day by rewatering with saline solutions until the experiment was terminated on early October during both seasons. |
