Abstract Prevalence rates of pterygium range from 0.7% to 31% in various populations around the world, and the condition is more common in warm, dry climates. (Tasman Wand Jaeger EA, 2002). The recurrence of pterygium after surgical treatment remains a problem. Because of the difficulty of controlling this condition, various treatment modalities including radiotherapy, antimetabolite or antineoplastic drugs, conjunctival flap and conjunctival or limbal autograft transplantation have been proposed. (Mutlu FM; et al., 1999). This study discuss the recurrence rate of pterygium after using 3 different after-surgery adjuvants, the first group which included 15 patients was subjected to B radiation after surgery, the second group with 15 patients was subjected to using on table Mitomycin C and the last group which had 15 patients was subjected to using conjunctival auto graft from the superior fornix to cover the bare area. It was carried in Fayoum Ophthalmic Hospital from the period 2015 -2016. The 45 patients were subjected to full eye and fundus examination and visual acuity testing. The study showed highest recurrence rate with B radiation and Mitomycin C technique and lowest recurrence rate with auto graft technique. The study showed that using Mitomycin C developed after surgery complications rather than using conjunctival auto graft. |
