Abstract

Introduction: the ridge resorption the biggest problem associated with complete loss of teeth can treated by implant with overdenture or with complete denture. Aim of the study: The aim of this study to compare the stress induced around the implants between 3 attachments (ball/socket), extra coronal resilient attachment (ERA) and Locator attachment in implant retained overdenture. Materials and methods: construction of overdenture with four implants in the cast and measure the stress by universal testing loading device and stain gauge. Result: the data obtained from this study were collected tabulated and statically analysis. Conclusion: Within the limitation ofthis in vitro strain gauge analysis, the following conclusions could be drawn: 1. The Ball and socket attachments recorded the highest peri-implant strain around 4 implants supporting maxillary overdentures followed by ERA attachments and Locator attachments recorded the lowest strain. Therefore, in terms of peri-implant bone preservation, it is advisable to use Locator attachments to retain maxillary overdentures to the implants 2. Long-term clinical research is still required to determine the influence of observed stress levels on the peri-implant tissue and potential complications and maintenance when different stud attachments are used to retain maxillary overdenture to the implants.
