Abstract

In response to the rapid changes characterizing architectural education and the practice of architecture worldwide, it has become inevitable for architectural school buildings in Egypt to develop accordingly in order to be able to keep pace with today’s world demands and to deliver the student output that can compete with its international counterparts. In this light, rethinking the interior spaces of architectural school buildings has become of crucial importance. A more objective, user-centered and target-oriented interior design approach is sought. Hence, this dissertation examines a new means of employing applied psychology (a.k.a. environmental psychology) principles and BTM-software in the interior design process of architectural school buildings. By means of carrying out a field survey, conducting a survey questionnaire among students of architecture and examining interior design elements of the department of architecture subjected to study for compatibility with applied psychology principles, a new tool is developed for numerical decision making in the interior design process; and that is the so-called Bl-Evaluation Matrix.
