Abstract

A total of 200 milk and cream samples including 100 Farmer milk, 60 market milk and 40 fresh cream samples were collected from small farmers, different dairy shops and separators distributed through Beni-Seuf and El-Minia cities.
The milk samples were subjected to different milk serological test for detection of Brucella, including Milk ring test (MRT), Whey Buffered acidified plate antigen test (wBAPAT) and Whey Rose Bengal plate test (wRBPT) as well as isolation of the organism.
Out of 100 farmers milk samples examined by MRT, antibodies against Brucella were found in 30% samples,while 7% were suspicious and 63% were negative respectively. Futhermore, examination of milk whey using wBAPAT and wRBPT, revealed presence of antibodies against Brucella in 44% and 42% of samples examined by these test respectively.
On the other hand, Out of 60 market milk samples examined by MRT,antibodies against Brucella were found in 23.3% samples, while8.4% were suspicious and 68.3% were negative respectively. Alsoexamination of its whey using wBAPAT and wRBPT, revealed presence of antibodies against Brucella in 53.3% and 48.3% of the examined samples respectively.
Bacteriological examination of the collected samples revealed detection of Brucella organisms in 28%, 60% and 32.5% fromfarmersmilk, market milk and cream, respectively. All isolates were typed as Brucella melitensisbiovar 3.
Correlation between isolation of Brucella organisms and milk serological tests illustrated that the agreementwith MRT was 48.1%, but with wBAPAT was 47.5%,while with wRBPT was 48.1%. In the other hand,correlation between MRT and whey milk agglutination tests showed that the agreement of different milk whey serological tests was calculated on the relation to MRT, the agreementwithwBAPAT was 45.7%, while withwRBPT was 46.3%.
The public health significance and suggestive control measures were discussed.
