Abstract

This in vitro study was performed to evaluate color matching and value change in zirconia crowns using different five coloring techniques.Materials and methods:Fifty zirconia crowns of maxillary right central incisor with A1 shade (have the same dimensions and morphology) were used in this study. The crowns were divided into five groups according to the coloring technique. group (I) (n=10) was fabricated by porcelain veneering with liner masking over the core framework.group (II) (n=10) porcelain veneering without liner masking over the core framework.group (III) (n=10):use of dipping technique.group (IV) (n=10):use of brushing technique.group (V):use of pre-colored translucent zirconia blocks.Crowns color were measured by Vita EasyShade Compact device and compared with the color value of A1 Vita Classic shade tab to calculate the color difference and the shade matching of the crowns. The data were analyzed with multivariate analysis of variance (ANOVA), (Kruskal Wallis) and Post hoc test for pairwise comparison (p≤0.05).Results:Vita EasyShade Compact device demonstrated significant difference between all groups and color of shade tab of A1 of Vita Classic shade tab.The lowest ∆E value belonging to group (І) (porcelain veneering with liner masking over the core framework) while the highest ∆E value belonging to group (III) (dipping technique). The results of Post hoc test regarding ∆E showed a significant difference between all groups (p< 0.001).Conclusion:within the limitation of this in-vitro study; porcelain veneering with liner masking over the core framework produced higher shade matching accuracy compared to other types of coloring techniques.Clinical studies are needed to evaluate the shade matching of the different coloring techniques used with other shades.
