Abstract

This study was carried out on 180 one day old chicks for 6 weeks to study the effect of dietary supplementation of 0.5 and 1% Curcuma longa on broilers and the possibility of facing the experimental infection with E.coli O78. Our work revealed growth promoter effect by increase live body weight and decrease Feed intake in the groups fed 0.5% then 1% Curcuma longa at the end experiment. Clinicopathological investigation showed significant increase in hemoglobin, PCV, TLC and lymphocytic count in Curcuma longa treated groups , biochemical results revealed increase in the total proteins, total globulin, and decrease in A/G ratio and serum glucose in 4th and 6th weeks of experiment.in addition to significant decrease in serum cholesterol level at 6th week only. While ALT, AST, albumin, uric acid, creatinine and calcium & phosphorus serum concentrations showed non-significant changes compared to control group. Immunological investigation revealed significant increase in total globulins, β globulins and γ globulins; also HI titer was significantly increased at 6th week, while IL1&IL6 were significantly decreased in the treated groups in the 6 week of age. IgM & IgG showed non significant difference compared with the control group. Regarding to the infected group (G6), there were normocytic normochromic anemia, leukocytosis, lymphocytosis, increased total proteins, total globulins, also ALT, AST, glucose, cholesterol, creatinine and uric acid were increased in comparison with the control group. Immunological investigation revealed significant increase in total globulins, β globulins, γ globulins, IgM & IgG and IL1 & IL6 in comparison with the control group at the 6th weeks of experiment. Curcuma longa 0.5 and 1% improved these changes in the infected treated groups.
