Abstract Congenital heart diseases accounts for nearly one third of all major congenital anomalies, it is incidence increased from 0.6 per 1000 live births at 1930 to 9.1 per 1000 live births after 1995. This increase is mainly due to increased awareness about CHD, development of new modalities for diagnosis, improved care and decreased mortality, although there is increased incidence due to increased maternal age, unhealthy lifestyle especially smoking and excessive BMI. Different modalities for diagnosis of CHD are available as echocardiography, chest x-ray, electrocardiography, multi slice CT in addition to pulse oximetry and physical examination, in spite of that only 73% can be diagnosed before discharge from hospital, while 27% discharged from hospital without diagnosis. |
