Abstract A neuromuscular disease defines disorders of the motor unit and excludes influences on muscular function from the brain like spasticity. These diseases may be congenital or acquired, acute or chronic, static or progressive. These diseases appear at different ages and hypotonia is the most common manifestation. These diseases not only affect the motor unit but also affect muscles of respirations which may lead to respiratory failure or cardiac muscle leading to heart failure. Quality of life: It is the measure of your symptoms and how much they affect your life Aim of the study: The study aimed to improve the quality of life to the patients and their families. Design of the study • Type of study This was a prospective, interventional and uncontrolled study. • Patients and methods The study was carried on children and adolescent suffering from neuromuscular diseases attending to neurology clinic at Abo Reesh teaching hospital. Ethical consent Written informed consent obtained from parents after briefing them the study aims and benefits. Inclusion criteria Generalized hypotonia due to upper motor neuron lesion Generalized hypotonia due to chronic diseases Methods All patients were subjected to the following 1. Full history taking with special stress on family history 2. Examination Full general examination with special stress on neurological examination 3. Preprogram assessment through Individualized neuromuscular quality of life questionnaire Implementation of the program Post program questionnaire to assess the effect of the program on the patients and their families 24 sessions were undergone for each group, time for each session(45-60 )minutes, one session per week, the 1st session was for building confidence, the 2 ND session was for answering the questionnaire then practical session at the end the program answering the previous questionnaire to assess the effect of the program on patients and their families. |
