Abstract Background: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of luteal phase Clomiphene Citrate (CC) versus follicular phase CC for ovulation induction in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) patients who were clomiphene citrate resistant. Methods: A prospective clinical trial study was conducted at Infertility outpatient clinic, Ain shams University Maternity Hospital. Patients were two hundred PCOS women who underwent induction of ovulation, half of them received CC in luteal phase and the other half received CC in follicular phase. The main outcome measured was ovarian response using transvaginal folliculometry. Results: PCOS patients who received CC in luteal phase had more than one follicle ≥ 18 mm in comparison to follicular phase CC but the ovulation rate was not statistically different, the endometrial thickness in Luteal phase group (mean ± SD = 9 ± 3) was better than follicular phase group (mean ± SD = 8 ± 2) and the difference was statistically significant. (P value = 0.15). Conclusions: There is no difference between luteal phase CC and follicular phase CC regarding ovulation and pregnancy rates. |
