Abstract Carbapenem resistance may be conferred through various mechanisms, including the expression of carbapenemases. Acquired MBLs are emerging resistance determinants in P. aeruginosa. They disseminate rapidly through bacterial population causing a threat to treatment with β-lactam antibiotics and carbapenems drugs. Aim of the study : The purpose of the current study was to detect the prevalence of imipenem resistance among Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from hospitalized patients in surgery department at Minia University Hospital which had infected post-operative wound infection. Also, it detect the prevalence of MBLs-producing isolates among IRPA isolates. Subjects and methods: In this study 70 Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated from 200 pus samples identified by conventional bacteriological methods. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing by disk diffusion method using different classes of antibiotics including imipenem was done for all isolates. Confirmation of MBLs was done for IPM-resistant isolates both phenotypically MBL E-test and genotypically by PCR to detect blaIMP and blaVIM genes. |
